Urschel Pavilion for Ice Skating & Summer Market Posted on January 19, 2016 by Matt Evans On Saturday, November 28, 2015, the City of Valparaiso opened the William E. Urschel Pavilion and the Indiana Beverage Activity Center. Hundreds were in attendance at the grand opening Winter Festival. The facility features a covered pavilion and ice rink for Ice Skating from approximately November thru the end of February. From March thru October, the covered pavilion serves as an event venue, as well as the local farmer’s market called Valparaiso Market location on Tuesday’s and Saturdays. This fine facility is another in the long line of downtown and city-wide amenities that garners recognition for Valpo Parks as one of the best in the State. By seeking to continually improve amenities for residents and visitors, the city continues to position itself as one of the leading communities of it’s size in the Midwest. The next generation Valplayso is now complete, as nearly 3,000 community members gave their support as managers, workers and as financial contributors to the project. Many individuals, corporations and non-profits donated time, money, and food for the work crews. As a result, the Valparaiso Park Department was able to leverage the purchase of some fantastic play equipment, provide a safer environment, better parking, improved bathrooms and more. As of December 2014, the park was mostly operational for the enjoyment of Valpo residents and visitors. The park department was still seeking to fill the final spaces of The Face Place, a Valplayso gathering spot and a place where anyone may have their likeness etched on a tile for display.
